Drawing upon the author s fieldwork in several Connecticut communities, this book documents how individual and institutional barriers, including racism, work to limit minority representation in civic affairs. It provides strategies to increase the political and civic participation of African Americans and Latinos.

Autor

Joyce Hamilton Henry was Executive Director of DemocracyWorks, a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization which was committed to making the democratic process more inclusive. She has a Ph.D. in Social Policy from Brandeis University.
