Hundreds of books and PhD dissertations which take Orientalism as a departure point have been written and a great number of courses have been thought at universities. How these criticisms have brought differences and similarities to the nineteenth century British travel writing on Izmir is the most important problematic of this study. In that context, Charles Fellows s A Journal Written during an Excursion in Asia Minor (1839), Charles Macfarlane s Constantinople in 1828 (1829), John Cam Hobhouse s A Joruney Through Albania and Other Provinces of Turkey in Europe and Asia (1813) have been investigated along with forty other travelogues. This study has examined how the Orientalist discourse operates, how intertextual affinities determine the discourse and themodern counterparts of the concepts that the Orientalist discourse is mainly constructed upon.
