Evaluation of the performance of a pilot-scale multi-stage filtration system (FiME) for the treatment of raw water taken from the surface spring that supplies the city of Goianápolis/GO. The installation arrangement used in this research consisted of 1 dynamic pre-filter (PFD), 1 ascending pre-filter (PFA) and 2 slow filters, one with sand (FLA) and the other with sand and granular activated carbon (FLACAG). The results obtained suggest that the FiME system is efficient in treating surface water with high levels of total and thermotolerant coliforms and with peaks in colour and turbidity, pro...
The results obtained suggest that the FiME system is efficient in treating surface water with high levels of total and thermotolerant coliforms and with peaks in colour and turbidity, producing, when operated properly, water with low levels of colour, turbidity and coliform bacteria, meeting the recommendations of Ministry of Health Ordinance 518/2004, demonstrating the viability of applying this technology in the production of water for human consumption.
