Higher education has undergone sweeping changes in order to meet the demands of contemporary society. Its diversification in both content and structure has been reflected by the parallel development of a plethora of specialized terms. Some of these are internationally interchangeable, others have translations equivalents, others still are specific to one education system only.
The European Centre for Higher Education (CEPES), recognizing the need for a comparative, multilingual dictionary of the terminology of higher education in various countries, has therefor enlisted the help of expert educationalists, linguists and lexicographers to produce this two-volume lexicon.
Volume I covers the terminology of higher education systems in Western Europe and North American countries. Volume II covers the Central and Eastern European countries, plus Israel, Greece and Turkey.
This lexicon is a reliable source of information for individuals whose line of study, teaching or research requires them to study or work abroad. At the same time it will prove to be an invaluable guide for employers needing to know the level of education of prospective employees who have studied in unfamiliar education systems.
