In response to this, several mining companies have sought to implement measures to mitigate negative impacts of their activities on the people living in mining communities. In Ghana, despite positive claims by mining companies, other researchers and stakeholders contend that the gains from the mining sector to the economy are achieved at significant environmental, health and social costs to the country. This book, therefore, examines the environmental and health impacts of Anglogold Ashanti's mining activities on the people of Obuasi, one of the famous mining communities in Ghana. Quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to analyze findings of the problem investigated. The analysis, findings and recommendations in this book are particularly valuable to mining companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, development agencies as well as stakeholders in the mining, health and environmental sectors in the formulation and implementation of policies.
