This book, Midhurst WW2 Memoirs: 4. Hard Ending (1944-1950) is the final work of a tetralogy written over a decade. Its aim is to leave an account of the life and times of a small town experiencing the development of WW2. It uses the back story of the author's time there as a story-line, adding extensive back-story accounts that few would have known of at that time. Experiences of people connected to the town's history are included showing that many famous, brave and infamous people did incredible things. The influx of evacuees from London and many Canadian, and later, US soldiers made the little town and District come alive. Book 1 deals with the history of the District before WW2 came about, this being needed as no history had been published before that linked its history into existing primary and secondary sources. Whilst some people's accounts are given over several books, they can be read as separate experience in a single book. A truth/fiction chapter explores the highly probable invasion by the Germans and what it might have been like in Midhurst. Autor

Born in London in 1937, Peter was evacuated in 1940 to Midhurst in West Sussex. With his family he migrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1951, where he still lives. His working life began in Australia in the electrical trades, in 1961 taking on his academic career in Engineering. Upon gaining the BE (Hons) and ME at the University of Adelaide, he moved to Warwick University for a PhD research period in the early 1960s. After a decade as an academic in geophysics at the University of New England, he returned to Adelaide as the Professor of Electronic Engineering. In 1986 he was awarded the DSc, in Engineering, by the University of Warwick. He took early retirement in 1998 to allow him to follow writing and handcrafts. He and Pat then spent five pleasant years living in the Cotswolds.Peter has always been attracted to non-fiction writing. His background led him, in the 1980s, into freelancing popular technical articles in the monthly magazine, Electronic Today International. During his 35year academic career he also authored, or edited, over 20 text and research books, and the usual 100 plus, scholarly papers. He was a book-series Editor for John Wiley, in Chichester. Writing far away in Adelaide, Australia, has not been a problem; the Internet, and its email, provide most of what is needed today. He has visited Midhurst many times, the latest being in 2014, 2015 and 2018 to build up research on the Midhurst District during WW2, and to launch his Midhurst Memoirs project and Book 1.His interests have covered numerous handcrafts - with mixed successes. He completely rebuilt and modified an Amilcar racing car in 1954. His 1958 electronic base-guitar was an experience; his several house building extensions were well done. His 2017 classic decorated wrought iron balustrades received unsolicited craftsman acclaim (but wore out his shoulders)! He has constantly been building onto their homes to provide for their 6 children - who now live in Adelaide, Dubai, and Melbourne. Pat and he, now have 12 grandchildren.
