The book aims to familiarize the engineer with mechanical engineering principles which underlie numerous designs of large caliber gun systems. Chapter 1 covers monobloc and autofrettaged gun barrels, vibration effects and chamber design. The second chapter handles breech assemblies and the dynamics of semi automatic mechanisms. Chapter 3 covers hydro pneumatic recoil systems exhaustively. The fourth chapter is devoted to balancing gears and the last two chapters effectively deal with elevating and traversing mechanism design. Finally all the data the student is likely to require is included in an exhaustive appendix.
