Katinka lives in a rambling old apartment block in Massachusetts, and makes ends meet by writing stories for top-shelf men's magazines. She's a disappointment to her mother (who defines an eligible bachelor by the college he went to), and is all too frequently reminded of her professional (and personal) failings by her ex-husband (who used to be Katinka's professor).
