RUS Биография художницы необычной судьбы, которая написала портрет Марины Цветаевой в Коктебеле, Владимира Набокова в Берлине, а закончила жизнь признанной художницей и наставником бомбейских 'художников-прогрессистов' в Индии. Политические и социальные потрясения, свойственные ХХ веку, вели Магду Максимилиановну Нахман (1889-1951) от благополучного детства в Санкт-Петербурге в конце ХIХ века, учебы со Львом Бакстом и Кузьмой Петровым-Водкиным в художественной школе Елизаветы Николаевны Званцевой, к участию в бурной символистской и модернистской художественной жизни предреволюционной России, а затем к бегству от гражданской войны в русскую глубинку. Вернувшись в Москву, она вышла замуж за известного борца за свободу Индии М. П. Т. Ачария, с которым пережила трудности эмиграции в Берлине 20-30-х, а затем уехала в Бомбей, где утвердилась как значимый художник, член 'Бомбейского художественного общества' и наставник нового поколения индийских художников.Лина Бернштейн буквально по крупицам воссоздала ее жизнеописание из писем, дневниковых записей, архивных документов и бесед с теми, кто знал Магду в поздние годы.
