I've been writing since I was a kid--short stories about my adventures. I tried to be as true to my experiences then as I do now. In college, I learned how to craft through dialogue. A certain amount of descriptive imagery is key to setting the scene, but dialogue brings us into the action and allows us to hear the words in our own vernacular. I believe that stories take us away from ourselves, only to find ourselves somehow weaved into the narrative. Look for the prequel to Letters to Corey by late Spring. Written from Corey's viewpoint, it will tie in his early realization that he is different; his struggles; and the two lives he is forced to live to maintain the facade with his family. He is drawn into gritty gay scene in the West Village in the early '80's, never seeming to get enough. When he meets Michael, he feels he can leave the incestuous life behind. When he is diagnosed with the 'gay plague', his life--along with his mother's--turns on its heel. I live in northern MI.
