It was possible to work out that refugees of Togolese origin leave their home country due to the lack of "good governance". This is characterized by a lack of freedom of expression, persecution of people critical of the government, a lack of jobs, corruption and nepotism as well as mismanagement. It has also emerged that France's foreign policy in Togo is partly contributing to the lack of good governance by interfering in Togo's domestic politics.
