Physician and geologist Peter Cormack Sutherland (1822â 1900) served as surgeon on the 1850â 1 expedition led by William Penny in search of Sir John Franklin. Published in 1852, this two-volume account includes the poignant discovery of Franklin's winter quarters at Beechey Island and the graves of several men.
