The 4th-leading scorer in Illinois high school history, he led his team to a state championship in 2005 and was named Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2006, and was heavily recruited by colleges. He chose Duke, for whom he moved over from shooting guard to point guard towards the end of the 2008 09 season, and was the MVP of the 2009 ACC Tournament
