Debussy's one-act ballet, or 'Poème dansé', was given its first performance by Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes on May 15, 1913 with scenery by Léon Bakst; Vaslav Nijinsky was the featured dancer and Pierre Monteux conducted.
