It attempts a concise presentation of basic facts which can be covered in a three unit course. The text is built around the biology of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi and general methods of studying them. In recent years because of the economic situation of the country (Nigeria), teaching in Nigerian higher institutions has become very difficult due to the non-availability of standard and current text books of avoidable price.
