This book contains a final Telecommunications Engineering degree thesis that proposes a service design that operates using a protocol, the OpenTimestamps protocol, built over the Bitcoin blockchain in order to timestamp any file and its contents in a totally reliable and incorruptible way without the need to rely on third par-ties. A parallel process has also been implemented using smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain and the ERC-721 token standard in order to provide the users with unique ownership of their timestamps. For understanding how the protocol works, it will be first explained what is Blockchain, how the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains work and how is the OpenTimestamps protocol developed over the Bitcoin blockchain. Then, the whole timestamp and ownership developed protocol is described in detail.
