Our book aims to highlight the spring towards modernity of the Romanian petroleum industry and its consequences. The triggering point of this process was the foundation of the first modern refinery in the world in Ploiesti, in 1857. Owing to its performance throughout the times, Romania was placed among the elite of large producers, processors and exporters in the world.Our presentation relies on the results of bibliographical research and scientific investigations.

Gheorghe Calcan, PhD Professor, Petroleum - Gas University of Ploiesti, Romania (collaborating professor since 2021). Author/ co-author of 15 books and over 150 studies and articles published in Romania and abroad, in research fields such as: the history of the Romanian petroleum industry, the international recognition of the Great Union from 1918.
