Silymarin is a complex mixture extracted from the seeds and fruits of Silybum marianum. It has been widely used for the treatment of liver disorders. This poor bioavailability may be due to poor solubility, degradation by gastric fluid or its poor enteral absorption. Considering these limitations, new drug delivery systems were developed in order to increase its solubility and oral absorption. Nanoemulsion offers numerous advantages over other drug delivery systems such as higher solubilization ability, rapid onset of action, and extended shelf life. The present study emphasizes the formulation and evaluation of silymarin loaded nanoemulsion aiming at enhancing its solubilization and oral bioavailability.
