The following combination of treatments were used (1) Cultivator 4 times with wheat mulch (2) Cultivator 4 times with barseem mulch (3) Cultivator 4 times without mulching (4) Mould board plough followed by rotavator with wheat mulch (5) Mould board plough followed by rotavator with barseem mulch (6) Mould board plough followed by rotavator without mulch (7) Cultivator twice with wheat mulch (8) Cultivator twice with barseem mulch (9) Cultivator twice without mulch. Tillage practices were alloted to main plots and mulching levels to subplots.
