Though manageable, it is a serious condition that is listed as the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. According to the national diabetes statistics report for 2020 compiled by the CDC, more than 34 million Americans (1 or every 10 people) are currently living with diabetes. About 5% of all cases found in the United States are classified as type 1 diabetes. Another 88 million Americans (about 1 out of every 3 people) are facing pre- diabetes. Jane's son, John; granddaughter, Julia; and sister, Nancy lives with type 1 diabetes and have inspired her to generously give to the cause of diabetes.
