[I Am] The Self-Initiated / The Self-Proclaimed Chosen offers a fictional narrative about the life of the young Latin American Joshua Emanuel Torres Magdala, who breaks with all established archetypes and paradigms since the advent of written language. He does not follow the hero's journey nor that of the chosen one; he is not a prophet, and moreover, he is not instructed by any herald or teacher. He could be any of us, if only we decided to be "The One Who Has Understanding." One day, Joshua Emanuel Torres Magdala asks himself: Why not study Hebrew gematria? Why not uncover the mysteries of the Book of Revelation? Can the spiritual transcend into the technological, go beyond the physical, and migrate into virtual reality and artificial intelligence? Does free will exist? Or, as if we were characters whose fate is written, do we simply choose from a menu of various options previously set by superior, unknowable beings?
