I am Belinda Hernandez, and this is a story I would like to share with you. On September 26, 1966, I was born in El Paso, Texas. It was hot as ever in the summer of June. It was very hot in our one-bedroom house, where I lived with six other brothers and sisters. I was the seventh child, and I was the baby of the house. One afternoon, all the kids were screaming and crying, and it was driving my mom angrier by the minute. I was nine months old. My mother was on drugs, and she loved to drink alcohol. One afternoon, she couldn't take it anymore with all the screaming and crying. So one day, she took me into the kitchen and she took a knife and she stabbed me in the head. I was hospitalized for a few years, then I was placed into an orphanage.
