Buchrestaurierung ist ein Teilgebiet der Restaurierung. Auf Grund der großen Vielfalt an Bindetechniken und am Buch verwendeten Materialien sowie der ästhetischen Dimension von historischenBüchern, braucht der Restaurator/die Restauratorin für die Restaurierung von Büchern spezielles Wissen und Kenntnisse. Das vorliegende Buch verdeutlicht dies erneut sehr gut.
In den letzten Jahren gab es europaweit zahlreiche Konferenzen und Summer Schools, die sich das historische Buch in Restaurierungspraxis und -theorie vorgenommen hatten. Dennoch ist das Thema noch lange nicht erschöpfend bearbeitet.
Die Autoren des vorliegenden Bandes hoffen einen weiteren Beitrag zur Erhaltung unseres wichtigen Bucherbes zu leisten indem sie sowohl auf den Wert der Konservierung und Restaurierung von wertvollen Büchern als auch auf die Notwendigkeit Forschung in der Buchrestaurierung zu betreiben hinweisen.
