Kit, a girl of only fifteen, who had only recently achieved the position of Priest, is sent to a nearby village to investigate a series of unexplained deaths of human children. As a reward for her recent successes, an elderly priest gifts Kit a sentient dragon-bone cane and information on the location of an ancient library.
