Little discussion about 'globalization' has concerned one of the truly global forces - the management of multi-national and large domestic corporations - and the significance of modern management practices for workers in the developing world. This book examines the nature of work in the modern corporate sector in Turkey with special reference to three industries, white goods, cars and textiles. Based on extensive interviews, it questions some common assumptions in the modern western social science literature, especially in North America and Britain.

Autor

THEO NICHOLS is Distinguished Research Professor, Cardiff University. He has written on a wide variety of subjects in the general field of economic sociology. Over the last decade he has actively researched and written on aspects of economic development and social structure in Turkey, often with Nadir Sugur. NADIR SUGUR is Professor of Sociology at Anadolu University, Eskisehir, Turkey, and was formerly Research Fellow at Cardiff University. He is co-editor of Work and Occupation in Modern Turkey (with Erol Kahveci and Theo Nichols) and has written widely on aspects of industrial organizations and work in modern Turkey.
