This work is related to the investigation of the Neoproterozoic climate paradox and the associated development of various theories on glacial events during this period. The individual theories are summarised in Chapter 3.3. Of the at least three sequences of presumably glacial marine diamictites overlain by typical warm-water carbonates (NCP), this study will take a closer look at and evaluate a representative sequence from the Marinoan in northern Namibia. In particular, the Northern Carbonate Platform (NP) exposed in the Otavi Highlands in the stratigraphic interval of the Otavi Group will be investigated. In the study area, strong lateral facies changes within small spatial distances were observed during the period of the NCP occurring there. The extent to which these changes are related to climate development, sedimentation processes, tectonic processes or local basin development is the subject of this study. In this text, the sequence in the underlying layer of the assumed glacial is examined in particular.
