The decision to pursue a doctorate in a new area of knowledge represented a search for new horizons and perspectives of analysis. Having been developed in parallel with the philosophy course at the University of São Paulo, the thesis that I am now publishing in book format presents a lot from a Philosophy of Science perspective in verifying religious traits in instrumental rationality. It's impossible for me not to fall into the Campbellian and Jungian way of looking at this issue. This is due to the subcutaneous attraction that Joseph Campbell's thought has exerted on my worldview since I was a teenager. The reader will also notice that the last chapter marks a return to environmental and geographical issues, the fruit of my early training. For me, the purpose of a doctorate has always been to produce an interpretation of phenomena from apparently disconnected fragments. The construction of a mosaic, rather than a thesis. The themes of Ulysses and Frankenstein had persisted in my mind for many years and producing the image of this alliance between the characters was something that consumed me. A provocation for new and unusual interpretations.
