Many of my poems offer high to low life experiences that we all encounter at some point in our respective lives. Within these pages you will absorb inspiration, empowerment and encouragement for your spirit.
I was born and raised in Washington, DC. God blessed me with wonderful parents, Richard, Sr. and Alice, who are now somewhere around His Throne. Their nurturing and sacrifices for my good have not been in vain. Being educated in the public schools of the District of Columbia has afforded me many fond memories, as well. God has also given me three siblings, one brother and two sisters; namely, Richard, Jr., Donna and Iris, all gifted in their own right. I also have a host of other family throughout the country. Mr. James "Jimmie" Nelson was a fellow member of Corinthian Baptist Church, Washington, DC, and former Director of Corinthian's Senior's Ministry. He requested volunteers to assist in the development of this particular Senior's Day Celebration. I volunteered to try my hand at composing a poem on a subject that was, and still is, near and dear to the hearts of seniors and their families everywhere. It is a life-threatening health issue for the afflicted individual. Alzheimer's Disease. Jimmie has been Home for many years. His gentle spirit is sorely missed. This was my first attempt at writing poetry. This dabbling exploded into a passion. I NEVER HEARD THE TRAIN is my first work.
