The European shipping industry was facing a bottleneck situation in road freight loading capacity triggered by a shortage in trucks during 2006. Furthermore demand in road freight transport is constantly increasing thus leading to soaring freight rates. Companies that do not cope with the scarcity in road loading capacity risk severe deterioration of their delivery performance. As a consequence, this book is dealing with a two- way approach to anticipate capacity bottlenecks in European Road Freight Transportation. First, the visualization of the source & sink problem (flow analysis) and second the conception of a pre-warn system based on a set of indicators. The flow analysis result allows the indentification of those regions, where backloads from a carrier's point of view are especially difficult to acquire. Contrariwise the indicator system provides a broad range of transport related factors and their development. As a result, the reader gains a sound inside-view of the European road sector and its implications for the shipping industry. This book is intended for all students, alumni and professionals interested in road transport.

Autor

Andreas Klusacek studied at the Vienna University of Economics
and at the Université catholique de Louvain. He graduated
with a Master's degree in International Business Administration
(Majors: Production Management; Transportation) and a CEMS
Master in International Management in Dec 2007. Since 2008 he
is working for REHAU in Berne/CH.
