The issue of acceptance is brought out as the protagonist struggles with accepting a spiritual gift bestowed on her and at the same time feels like society will not accept her. She is hooked on a cure for her nosebleeds; and becomes a bad habit she must kick. One support structure keeps her head above water, until she accepts who she is.
