This study focuses on the discursive modalization present in Seydou Badian's novel Sous l'orage. The novel integrates interactive discursive sequences where ego-expression and lyrical effusions coexist with elements of social discourse. This article therefore explores how this phenomenon manifests itself in the novel's discursive universe, as an aesthetic and significant element. It questions the nature of modalization and its expressive impact in the characters' discourses, suggesting that this ambivalence derives from the speakers' communicative intentions and their effects on co-locutors. Drawing on the principles of enunciative linguistics and corpus linguistics, the study refers to the work of Oswald Ducrot (1984) to analyze how speaking subjects reactualize the expressive value of modalized utterances, leading to objective discourse. This analysis highlights the expressive dynamics of modalization beyond its traditional role of conveying linguistic subjectivity, underliningthe importance of enunciative choices in the construction of meaning.
