This book is intended to be a permanent reference material for the training of dental students in Latin America. Its contents include in the first chapter the role of fluorides and their bioavailability. The second chapter deals with the epidemiology, mechanism of action and management of enamel fluorosis, recognizing that this alteration is considered to be the main effect of chronic exposure to fluorides. In the third chapter, the clinical findings of enamel fluorosis, its detection method and differential diagnosis are developed. The fourth chapter highlights a conceptual overview of the legislation and public policy for the mitigation of fluoride exposure in Latin America. The fifth chapter describes the main analytical methods for the quantification of fluorides and in the sixth chapter, the main methods for the removal of fluorides in drinking water are developed, taking into account that water is the exposure by ingestion that has the greatest global impact, especially in countries where endemic areas with the presence of fluorides naturally occurring are identified.
