For bringing about overall genetic improvement in production, reproduction and growth traits of a breed, the selection of female has limited scope due to lack of sufficient replacement stock. On the other hand, very intensive selection can be practiced in case of males as few males are required for breeding purpose. Hence, best way to enhance the genetic potential of animal is to use proven sires in subsequent generations to transmit superior genetic potential for milk production.
