This book challenges the fundamental assumption that modern Jewish identity is a direct, unbroken lineage from the biblical Israelites, the descendants of Jacob. Instead, it argues that the term 'Jew' evolved over time, encompassing various peoples through conversion and assimilation, and that significant segments of the population identified as Jewish in later eras, particularly from the Second Temple period onwards, were not of direct Israelite descent. We will embark on a critical examination of biblical genealogies, paying particular attention to the often-overlooked inconsistencies and alternative lineages presented in texts like Luke's Gospel. The transformation of identity following the Babylonian Exile, the historical influence of groups such as the Edomites and the Khazars, and the implications of modern DNA studies will be brought to bear on this revisionist thesis.
