I jerked backward, bumping into my side table, and knocked the lamp to the ground. When it hit the floor the switch was bumped and the room was illuminated in a soft yellow glow. Air rushed into my lungs and I immediately jumped to my feet. I grabbed the fire stoker, leaned against the wall and threw my back into the corner of the room, ready to defend myself now.
