Enterobacter sakazakii (formerly known as Cronobacter sakazakii) is opportunistic pathogen that can cause necrotizing enterocolitis, bacteremia and meningitis, predominantly in neonates. It constitutes a potential health hazard particularly for the neonates and is now attracting considerable attention because of its varied clinical manifestations.
