The author examined the deleterious effects of oil spill on the chemical and load bearing properties of the soils in the Niger Delta. The results were quite revealing. A correlation was established between the oil contaminated soils and reduction in the bearing capacity of the soils. These results were equally tested statistically to ascertain the level of significance and the spatial variation within the oil producing communities.
