Tomatoes are one of the most important vegetables in our country, but yields in small production systems are below harvest potential.Red mites are pests that cause serious damage to tomatoes. Family growers in Mozambique have few financial resources to buy chemical pesticides, due to their high cost. The study was set up in a randomized complete block design, consisting of five treatments and four replications. The treatments were: T1: Margosa 600g/l; T2: Castor 600g/l; T3: Tobacco 600g/l; T4: Piri-piri 600g/l and T5: Control (Abametin) 1 ml/l. The bioinsecticides were applied when the level o...
The bioinsecticides were applied when the level of control reached 3 mites per leaf. The variables analyzed were: number of fruits per plant, number of commercial and non-commercial fruits. The data was analyzed using the Statistix 10 statistical package, and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) was carried out; comparisons between treatments were made using the Tukey test at 5% probability. Castor (Rícinus communis L.) has potential as a bioinsecticide, as it showed a greater quantity and better quality of fruit.
