Patch antennas with bulk micromachined GaAs substrate suitable for on-chip integration with active devices are investigated. Advantages of such integrated antennas are increased bandwidth, improved efficiency, etc. Micromachining reduces the surface wave generation whereas Electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) blocks the surface wave propagation.
