Earlham College, opened in 1847, is the second oldest Quaker college in the world. Its alumni include a Nobel laureate--Wendell M. Stanley, class of 1926--and two Pulitzer Prize winners--Edwin Way Teale, class of 1922, and Manning Marable, class of 1971. Earlhamites have been politicians, authors, activists, and above all teachers and scientists.
