Ports around the world seek to maintain the competitiveness of their operations through investments in infrastructure that enable them to operate with the modern ships and equipment used by the maritime industry today, which require ever greater depths to accommodate the draught of these new vessels. It is in this context that this study highlights the deepening dredging service developed at the Port of Santos. In this work, the author addresses the importance of port development from the perspective of the economic development of the regions and countries in which they are located, highlighting and emphasising the socio-economic impacts that affect the coastal communities exemplified here by the community of Praia do Góes, in the municipality of Guarujá/SP, which is located on the left bank of the Port of Santos. Thus, by addressing in an unprecedented way the impacts resulting from the deepening dredging process that took place in the largest port in Latin America, from the perspective of socio-economic impacts, this work is essential reading for researchers and professionals in the field.
