Many vendors have brought products to market, including traditional film camera vendors like Arri and Panavision, as well as new vendors like RED and Silicon Imaging, and companies which have traditionally focused on consumer and broadcast video equipment,like Sony and Panasonic. The benefits and drawbacks of digital vs. film acquisition are still debated, but digital cinematography cameras sales have surpassed mechanical cameras in the classic 35 mm format. Digital cinematography's acceptance was cemented when Slumdog Millionaire became the first movie shot mainly in digital to be awarded the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
