Design and development of simple, efficient and environmentally benign synthetic routes for the synthesis of medicinally privileged heterocycles/macrocycles and widely used synthetic precursors in organic synthesis from readily available starting materials and reagents is one of the major challenges in synthetic organic chemistry. Up to now, a huge number of synthetic routes for the synthesis of widely used building blocks in organic synthesis i.e. ¿-brominated and ring brominated aralkyl ketones and medicinally privileged heterocycles like highly functionalized thiazoles and pyridines have been reported. In spite of this development, there are still some drawbacks such as narrow substrate scope, low atom economy, less selectivity, harsh reaction conditions and also the use of expensive catalysts and reagents which are not readily available etc. In the present study, attempts have been made to develop simple, efficient, green and sustainable synthetic routes for the synthesis of ¿-brominated and ring brominated aralkyl ketones, highly functionalized thiazoles and pyridines and a new class of 16-membered macrocycles from readily available starting materials and reagents.
