Nowadays, numerous products are available to make embedded systems WLAN-compatible in the simplest possible way, enabling data to be sent and received wirelessly via the LAN. There is also a demand for greater flexibility/mobility so that data can be accessed from any location and not just from a fixed control station. This development prompted this thesis, which explores how data from microcontroller systems can be retrieved via WLAN in an ad hoc network. A program programmed with LabVIEW and running on the Windows operating system is required for data retrieval so that conventional computers (such as notebooks or desktop computers) can be used. The core of this work is the development of software for data exchange in a prototypical distributed system for measured value acquisition. The individual nodes consist of an ATMEL 8051 microcontroller (AT89C51CC03) and a WLAN module (CSW-B85).
