His extensive general education as well as the time he spent abroad, but especially the fact that he spoke no less than eight languages qualifies him as a pioneer of the pan-European idea. By composing the 'Deux Esquisses' during his second Paris sojourn, he created a monument to virtues that were an intrinsic part of his value system: friendship and love. The high degree of playability qualifies the work as teaching literature just as much as for the concert stage.----Nicht nur als Komponist, sondern auch vor allem als Humanist, Lehrer, Dirigent und Botschafter der Wiener Klassik leistete Sigismund von Neukomm bedeutende Beiträge und war ein gern gesehener Gast in Adelshäusern und bei Hofe. Durch seine umfassende Allgemeinbildung und die vielen Auslandsaufenthalte, vor allem auch durch die Tatsache, dass er nicht weniger als acht Sprachen beherrschte, qualifiziert sich Neukomm zum Wegbereiter des paneuropäischen Gedankens. Mit den 'Deux Esquisses' schuf er in seiner zweiten Pariser Phase ein pianistisches Lob an Werte, die in seiner Werteskala ganz oben rangierten: die Freundschaft und die Liebe. Durch die gute Spielbarkeit eignet sich das Werk gleichermaßen für den Unterricht als auch für das Konzertpodium.
