A renegade officer in charge of a remote camp in the interior of the island has established a reign of terror in that region, harassing the farmers and their families and evoking old rituals of witchcraft dating back to the time of slavery. The head of state in Havana sends a young officer to find out what is happening. This novel, for its thematic focus and narrating skill of the author, is easy to read and of high interest. In its pages the reader will discover the little known realities of Cuba after the Revolution.
