'Siren' , one of the early pieces in this book, is, in my mind, a classic representation of Angela as a person, a dreamer and a writer. The opening lines of the piece throw the reader, unhesitatingly, into roiling agony and devastation. "That day I threw away the key. in a drunken haze of rage. Destroyed by you-I lay on the floor. I ask myself, How did our love turn to hate?" You are then taken on a journey that is replete with unmissable flairs of poetic brilliance in lines like "A month lost without the algorithm to speak" and "My looking glass was shattered from the lucid ambiance of heart's end." And before long, this piece becomes a smoothly told narrative of courage and resurrection in the face of despair and defeat. "I will not allow love to be a weakness. ...I will never fear that which is endless. Let the darkness you cast upon me, burn... burn... and cleanse away the impure. For I will continue to believe, in the magic of happiness..." While this will feel like a familiar plotline, it is the charisma of Angela's narrative and her ability to pull the reader into her world- that will envelop you as the reader.
