The object of the present work is criminalistics, a science through which expertise is performed. Therefore, as a theoretical reference, bibliographic surveys have been carried out on the content and the appropriate observations and knowledge have been added to the research. The bibliographical study gave a subsidy to deepen the knowledge in its historical context, evolution, concept of criminalistics, expert work and also about the application in the contemporaneity. Concepts of Garrido RG and Giovanelli A (2009), Braz JAC (2013) and Lino D and Mastunaga LH (2018), among others, were discussed. Finally, the technical and conceptual analysis of criminalistics is of utmost importance, often confused with criminology, although very similar to a different work assignment. Finally, the importance of knowledge about criminalistics and its factors can help in the operational work of police and investigative officers.
