Single-phase ac-dc converters with power factor
correction steadily increase their presence in
industrial and residential equipment due to rising
concerns about power quality and harmonic currents in
the utility grid. This book presents improvements in
control techniques for single-phase unidirectional
and bidirectional ac-dc boost converters with high
power factor. The generalized average-current-mode
control principles developed in this work lead to
better performance characteristics such as a wider
operating frequency range, reduced distortion of the
current waveform, and improved power factor, as well
as introduction of new functionality such as
capability of reactive power control. Multiple
realizations of the proposed control techniques are
developed and experimentally verified using
unidirectional and bidirectional converter prototypes
including a multilevel power stage topology. The book
provides examples of applications that benefited
from using the proposed control principles. This book
could be useful to anyone involved in development of
ac-dc converters with high power factor.
