Bankole Akanji ist außerordentlicher Professor und amtierender Leiter der Abteilung für Arbeitsbeziehungen und Personalmanagement an der Lagos State University Ojo, Nigeria. Er erwarb seinen B.Sc. und M.Sc. an der Universität von Lagos und promovierte in Arbeitsbeziehungen an der Universität von Ibadan, Nigeria. Er hat in zahlreichen internationalen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht.
